Getting started

Who is Deenlumo for?

Children aged 6 to 8. Lumo reads every instruction aloud, so children who are still learning to read can play too.

Do we need an account or internet?

No account or sign-up is needed. Buying or restoring a Deenlumo Family subscription goes through Apple’s App Store and needs internet.

Free and Deenlumo Family

What is free?

Deenlumo is free to download, with no card and no sign-up. Always free: the first adventure of every chapter, Lumo’s Review, the first level of every game, the garden and everything in the grown-ups area (children, progress, play time and settings).

What does Deenlumo Family add?

All 112 adventures in 14 chapters, the trickier levels of every game, Lumo’s Challenge and the full Quiz Show. One subscription covers every child on the device, with no charge per child. It is monthly or yearly and renews automatically. There is no free trial. The price for your country is shown in the app before you buy.

How do I subscribe?

Open the grown-ups area (answer the grown-ups check), then Deenlumo Family › See plans. Choose monthly or yearly, tap Subscribe and confirm with Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm. Children never see prices: when they reach a Family adventure, Lumo asks them to fetch a grown-up. If purchases on this device need approval (for example Ask to Buy), the app shows “Waiting for approval” and everything opens once the purchase is approved.

How do I manage or cancel?

On the iPhone or iPad, open Settings › your name › Subscriptions and choose Deenlumo Family, or tap Manage subscription in the grown-ups area. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. After cancelling, Deenlumo Family stays open until the end of the period you paid for. Apple handles billing and refunds: we never see your payment, so refund requests go to Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com).

How do I restore purchases?

Grown-ups area › Deenlumo Family › Restore purchases. Use it after reinstalling the app, or on another iPhone or iPad signed in to the same Apple Account that bought the subscription. If the app says no active subscription was found, check that you are signed in with that Apple Account.

What do we keep if we stop?

Everything your children earned stays: stars, garden and progress, for every child. The free adventures and first game levels stay open. Family-only adventures and levels lock again, and the progress made in them is kept if you subscribe later.

Does it cover all my children?

Yes. It covers every child profile on this device (up to 3), with no extra cost per child. The subscription is not shared through Apple Family Sharing.

Do we need internet for Deenlumo Family?

Only to buy, restore or manage it, which goes through Apple’s App Store. Once Deenlumo Family is active, the app remembers it on the device and checks again with the App Store the next time the device is online.

Deenlumo Family is sold under Apple’s standard licence agreement: Terms of Use (EULA). See also the privacy policy on purchases.

The grown-ups area

How do I open the grown-ups area?

Tap the Grown-ups button, then answer the multiplication question shown on screen (for example 7 × 8). After 3 wrong answers there is a short wait before you can try again. The area locks again when you leave it.

Is the grown-ups check parental consent?

No. It only keeps children out of settings. The app collects no data, so no consent for data is needed. See the privacy policy.

Children and profiles

Can brothers and sisters each have their own progress?

Yes. Up to 3 children can share one device. Each child picks an explorer and has their own stars, garden and play time. Add a child in Grown-ups area › Children on this device › “Add a child”. When the app opens, the “Who’s playing?” screen lets each child pick their explorer.

Why can’t I type my child’s name?

On purpose. To protect children’s privacy, the app stores no names. Each child is shown by the explorer they chose.

Is progress shared between my devices?

No. Progress stays on the device where it was earned. There is no cloud sync.

Languages

Which languages are there?

English, French and Arabic, with full right-to-left layout in Arabic. In the grown-ups area you can choose the app language (grown-ups) and the child’s learning language separately, for example French for you and Arabic for your child.

Sound and music

Can we play without music?

Yes. Grown-ups area › turn on No music. This turns off all background music. Lumo’s voice and sound effects keep working unless you turn them down too.

Can I change the volumes?

Voice, music and sound effects each have their own volume in the grown-ups area. The device’s own volume and silent switch work as usual.

Play time

Does the app limit screen time?

Lumo suggests a short break about every 20 minutes. You can also set an optional daily limit (off by default). When it is reached, play ends gently, nothing is lost, and only a grown-up can lift it. The grown-ups area shows minutes played today.

Progress and deleting

How do I reset or delete my child’s progress?
  • One child, start over: Grown-ups area › “Reset this child’s progress”.
  • Remove a child: Grown-ups area › Children on this device › Remove.
  • Everything: delete the app from the device.

Erased progress cannot be brought back by us, because we never had a copy. If you restore your device from an older iCloud or computer backup, that backup’s progress may come back.

We got a new device. Can we keep our progress?

Progress moves only if you move your whole device with an iCloud or computer backup, or with Quick Start. We do not keep a copy. A Deenlumo Family subscription comes back with Restore purchases (see above).

Accessibility

What helps children who find things hard?
  • Every instruction is read aloud by Lumo.
  • No timers or countdowns. Children go at their own pace.
  • After two tries, a hint and a simpler activity appear, and “Help me” is always available.
  • Calmer animations in the grown-ups area reduces movement on screen.

We are still improving support for VoiceOver and other iOS accessibility features. If something gets in your child’s way, please tell us.
